KTU 2026 Official Formula

KTU CGPA Converter

Convert your APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University CGPA.

For students of APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU), the method used to convert your Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) into a percentage has changed. Historically, KTU used a formula that subtracted a constant (2.5), which often left students at a disadvantage compared to peers from other universities.

Following numerous student requests and a formal resolution by the Academic Council in June 2023, the university revised its regulations.

The Official KTU Conversion Formulas

Depending on your graduation year, you might see two different formulas in older documents. However, for all current purposes in 2026, the New Formula is the standard.

  • New Official Formula (Implemented 2023): Percentage = CGPA multiplied by 10
  • Old Formula (Now Obsolete for B.Tech) : Percentage = (10 multiplied by CGPA) minus 2.5

Note: The university Syndicate resolved to apply the new CGPA × 10 formula to all students who graduated from the university, including the 2015 scheme. You can request a new certificate with this updated formula if your old one uses the “-2.5” factor.

How to calculate KTU CGPA to Percentage manually

Calculating your percentage is now as simple as shifting a decimal point.

Example Calculation:

If your final marksheet shows a CGPA of 8.45:

  1. Multiply by 10: 8.45 x 10
  2. Result: 84.5%

Old System Comparison: Under the old system, this would have been only 82%. The new 2026 guidelines give you a 2.5% boost, which is significant for competitive exams like GATE or while applying for PSU jobs.

KTU Classification of Results

Your degree classification is determined by your CGPA, not your converted percentage. Here is the official breakdown:

CGPA RangeClass Awarded

Pro Tip: To get “Distinction,” you must not only have a 7.5+ CGPA but also must have cleared all subjects in the first attempt within the minimum duration of the course.

Understanding KTU Grade Points

Each letter grade on your marksheet corresponds to a specific grade point. These points are used to calculate your SGPA (Semester) and CGPA (Cumulative).

  • O (Outstanding): 10 Points
  • A+ (Excellent): 9 Points
  • A (Very Good): 8.5 Points
  • B+ (Good): 8 Points
  • B (Above Average): 7 Points
  • C (Average): 6 Points
  • P (Pass): 5 Points
  • F (Fail): 0 Points

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Is the CGPA × 10 formula valid for the 2015 scheme?

Yes. In late 2023, the university issued a circular stating that the new conversion formula (CGPA × 10) should be applied to the 2015 scheme as well to ensure uniformity across all batches.

Can I use this for SGPA?

Yes. If you need a semester-wise percentage (common for certain scholarship applications), you can multiply your SGPA by 10.

Why did KTU change the formula?

The change was made because many other National Institutions and State Universities use the 10x multiplier. KTU students were falling behind in merit lists because the “-2.5” constant was lowering their effective percentage.

How can I get a certificate with the new formula?

Graduated students can approach the university or their respective colleges to request a revised certificate or a conversion certificate that reflects the updated Academic Council resolution.
