CISCE Percentage Calculator
For students under the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), results day brings a unique set of calculation rules. Unlike other boards that may aggregate all subjects, ICSE and ISC allow for a “best-of” approach that can significantly boost your final percentage.
The ICSE “Best of Five” Rule (Class 10)
In Class 10, ICSE requires students to take at least 6 subjects. When calculating your final percentage, the board follows these criteria:
- English is Compulsory: You cannot exclude your English marks, even if they are lower than those of other subjects.
- Best Four Electives: Out of your remaining subjects (Maths, Science, Social Studies, Second Language, and your Group III elective), only the top four highest scores are selected.
The ISC “Best of Four” Rule (Class 12)
Class 12 students under the ISC wing have a slightly different requirement:
- English is Compulsory: Just like ICSE, English marks are a fixed part of your percentage.
- Best Three Electives: Out of your elective subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Accounts, Economics, etc.), only the top three scores are considered.
How to Use the Calculator
- Select Your Board: Toggle between ICSE and ISC at the top of the tool.
- Enter English Marks: Start with your English score, as it is the anchor for your calculation.
- Enter Other Scores: Fill in the marks for your remaining subjects. Don’t worry about the order—our tool automatically sorts them to find your highest scores.
- Instant Result: The calculator will display your percentage based on the English + Top 4 (ICSE) or English + Top 3 (ISC) logic.
Why Does CISCE Use This Rule?
The “Best of” rule is designed to help students play to their strengths. If a student is exceptional in Humanities but struggles with one specific Science paper, the board allows the lower score to be dropped from the final percentage calculation. This provides a more holistic view of a student’s academic aptitude.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Can I exclude English from my Best of 5 calculation?
No. According to CISCE regulations, English is a mandatory subject for percentage calculation in both ICSE and ISC.
Does the Group III elective (Physical Ed, Computers, etc.) count?
Yes. In ICSE, your Group III subject is treated like any other elective. If it is among your top four scores (excluding English), it will be included in the percentage.
Are the internal assessment marks included?
Yes. The marks you enter should be your final marks (Theory + Internal Assessment/Practical) as reflected on your marksheet.
What if I have 7 subjects in ICSE?
The rule remains the same. The calculator will still pick English and the 4 best scores from the remaining 6 subjects.
